Varsity A Week of January 31st, 2022
This week we found out where we are going to start our State Championship run. Sunday Jan.30th we had our Sectional draw meeting and we found out that we were voted #1 by all of the coaches in our sectional district. With have been voted #1 we had the first choice to pick where and which block we would be able to start. The choices were Colerain Bowl and Crossgate Lanes. Earlier this year we put up scores of 2824 and 2867 at Crossgate, 2942 at Colerain. We felt more comfortable at Colerain this year so we chose Colerain and the left lane in the second block.
Our only match we ended up having this week was on Wednesday vs a depleted Northwest Knights team that came with plenty of heart despite not having starters due to COVID. In the past couple of weeks our Varsity A team has really struggled getting out strong in the first game, and today was no different. We started out with an890(almost 100 pins below our average of 980). The only bowler to score above their average was Junior CJ Herbers with a 213. After one game Northwest led 975-890
Game two the Panthers woke up and bowled more like themselves scoring 1018. Highlighted by CJ Herbers 230(443), Junior Parker Nowlin 237 and Senior Brady Costello 203. Northwest rolled a 948 for a 1923 two game score vs Elder 1908.
Bakers have been where our team has excelled all year and today proved that again. only able to finish 3 games due to time restraints the Panthers put up games of 229,232, and 254 for a 715 three game baker score. Meanwhile, Northwest couldn’t match the firepower rolled a 577. This gave Elder the victor with a final score of 2653-2500.
With the ice storm of 2022 this week’s final Quad match was postponed until February 17th. That is when the Panthers will again hoist the GCL trophy for the 5th time in 7 years.
