The Bombers Roll into Districts
For the first time in Bowling Bomber history, the Bombers would roll sectionals out of Rollhouse Lanes in Fairfield. The Bombers would throw on the 39 foot pattern designed exclusively for Ohio High School Bowling. The pattern is flatter than the house shot the bowlers have used during the regular season. Of the 20 teams rolling at Rollhouse Lanes, only 7 would qualify to meet the 7 from Crossgate and 10 from Woodman at Beaver-Vu Bowl for Districts.
In game one, the Bombers struggled to cross the 800 mark having used their subs before the fifth frame. Connor Cahill rolled one of only two 200s for the Bombers on the day with his 204. Aaron Bickford shot a 179 and Andrew Berkemeier rolled a 163. The Bombers' bench combined for a 153 and a 117 in the opening round. The Bombers 816 was just enough to put them north of the cut line in 6th. La Salle opened big with a 1046 and Kings sat at the cut line at 789.
The Bombers continued to struggle to close frames in game 2 throwing an 802. Aaron Bickford and Andrew Berkemeier improved on their game one scores with a 181 and a 167. Brady Johnson off the bench in game one finished game two with a 172. Fairfield took over the leader spot rolling a game 2 high score of 987. The Bombers moved into 5th with a two game total of 1618. Northwest Lanes found success rolling an 860 to put the cut line at 1605.
The Bombers found the pocket in game three putting up 4th highest game 3 score with an 897. Brady Johnson rolling only his third game of 200 or more on the season with a 222. Aaron Bickford completed a 543 series with a 183 game and Andrew Berkemeier put up a 180 for a 510 series. Keegan Barbee finished with a 161. The top 3 scores belonged to two teams who jumped the Bombers in the standings, Kings and Hamilton, and third place team Batavia. The Bombers 2515 was good enough for 6th and put them just above Monroe and the cut line at 2467.
In bakers, the Bombers were paired with 5th place team Hamilton, 3rd place Batavia was paired with 4th place Kings, 2nd place La Salle and first place Fairfield rolled with each other. Lakota West, Oak Hills, Northwest and Harrison trailed Monroe by 53 pins or less. In games one through three St. X shot games of 177, 147, and 211 for a 535. Monroe had a huge 595 set for a 3062 to jump into fourth followed by the Bombers in 5th with 3050. La Salle's 600 moved them back into first with a 3363. Hamilton sat in 6th at 3006 and Kings and Oak Hills were tied for 7th at 2985.
The Bombers threw their final games of 157, 169, and 180 to shoot 1041 in bakers and 3556 overall to remain in 5th. Fairfield pushed through for victory at 3868, followed by La Salle at 3823, Monroe in third with 3667, and Batavia in fourth with 3651. Following the Bombers were Hamilton at 3524 and Northwest moving into the final spot with a 3511. Northwest's final game of 222 was enough to help them jump Kings, who shot a 155, and Oak Hills, who shot a 158, to clinch the 7th spot. Oak Hills finished in 8th with 3497 and Kings in 9th with 3459.
On the individual side, Aaron Bickford finished 17th, Andrew Berkemeier in 29th, Brady Johnson in 62nd, Connor Cahill at 90th, and Keegan Barbee finished 100th.
The Bombers now prepare to roll at Beaver-Vu Bowl for districts.
