Bombers Battle Back in Bakers

For the second season in a row, the Bowling Bombers open up tournament play at Poelking Lanes South in the Elks Invitational ran by Centerville. Last season, the Bombers finished 4th. The tournament is a total pin count tournament consisting of 3 individual games and 6 baker games.

In round one, Keegan Barbee paced the Bombers with a 212. Tyler Brown shot a 196 and Dimitri Panagis rolled a 188. The Bombers finished with a 915 putting them in 4th. Centerville rolled a 1045, Centerville JV and Oak Hills put up a 974 for second, and Batavia rounded out the top 5 with a 903.

In game 2, the Bombers struggled and did not cross the 200 threshold. Keegan Barbee shot 194, Brock Lusby rolled a 183, and Tyler Brown threw a 180. A pair of substitute scores of 189 and 162 rounded off the Bombers 908. Centerville pushed their lead high shooting a 1118, Oak Hills moved into sole possession of second rolling a 1085, Centerville JV struggled with an 831, and Hilliard Bradley shot to 5th with a 925. After 2, Centerville was at 2163, Oak Hills at 2059, St. X at 1823, Centerville JV at 1805, and Hilliard Bradley at 1791.

The Bombers were down 234 pins from the medaling positions going into game three. Tyler Brown locked in and shot a 255 for the Bombers and finished with a 631 series. Keegan Barbee finished his 580 series with a 174. Brock Lusby rolled a 236 for a 419 series. Connor Cahill shot a 236 and Brady Johnson finished his day with a 179. The Bombers threw game 3 high of 1080. Centerville rolled a 1034, Oak Hills shot a 923, Centerville JV threw a 986, and Loveland was the only other team to roll over 1000 with a 1008 to jump to fifth. Going to bakers, Centerville had a comfortable lead at 3197, Oak Hills at 2982, the Bombers sit 2903, Centerville JV 2791, and Loveland at 2768. The Bombers cut into the deficits and trailed first by 294 pins and second by 79 pins.

In game one, the Bombers threw 9 strikes on their way to a 224 while Centerville shot a 195 and Oak Hills rolled a 133. A 12 pin lead sat between the Bombers and the Highlanders. In game two, the Bombers threw a clean game for a 219 while the Highlanders ended their game with 6 straight strikes for a 221 and cut the Bomber lead to 10. The Bombers got bit by 3 opens and gutter strike in game 3 to throw a 190 but got lucky as Oak Hills shot a 162 to allow the lead to grow to 38. The gap between the Bombers and the Elks in first had been cut to only 271 pins as Centerville rolled games of 195, 212, and 203 in the first half of bakers.

Three more opens plagued the Bombers in game four as both St. X and Oak Hills tied with a 188 and Centerville cruised to a 300+ lead with a 218. With strikes and opens tied at 3 a piece in game five, the Bombers stretched their lead over the Highlanders by 12 more pins with Oak Hills throwing a 174. Going into the sixth and final game, Centerville has solidified their victory leading by 306 pins, the Bombers and the Highlanders had 50 pins separating them. The Bombers rolled 4 strikes in the first 5 frames and 5 strikes and two spares in the final 5 frames to shut the door with a 238 while the Highlanders shot a 130.

The Bombers finish second to the Centerville Elks by a final of 4395 to 4148. This is the best finish by the Bombers in the Centerville Invitational.

Justin Kumar struggled in game one and two of individuals but crushed bakers throwing 8 strikes and 2 spares across the final 5 baker games to help push the Bombers to the second place finish.

Record Performances

Tyler Brown's 255 puts him in the record books for individual games for the first time sitting at 121. Tyler's 631 is the 61st best 3 game series in St. X history. Both are career varsity highs for Tyler. The Bombers 1080 game 3 was the 39th best team game in school history. Their 238 is the 98th best baker game in school history.

Upcoming Schedule:

The Bombers face off against the Mason Comets on the 6th, and a GCL Match-Up with Moeller on the 7th. The Bombers then finish December with the Holiday Classic on the 10th, GCL rival Elder on the 12th, and end the first half with the GCL Quad on the 14th.
