No Divisional Changes in Bowling

The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has released preliminary divisional breakdowns and regional tournament representation for the 2024-25 winter sports season, including basketball, wrestling, bowling, swimming and diving, ice hockey, and gymnastics. Basketball will expand to seven divisions, with divisions determined by school size and competitive balance data. Wrestling divisions will be announced later, and bowling will have two divisions. No competitive balance adjustments will be made for wrestling, bowling, swimming and diving, ice hockey, or gymnastics.

The proposal for individual sports divisions, based on the number of participating teams, outlines a structured approach: one division for 200 or fewer teams, two divisions for 201 to 450 teams, three divisions for 451 to 700 teams, and four divisions for 701 or more teams.

Despite this framework, the 2024-25 and 2025-26 bowling season will feature two divisions, with no competitive balance adjustments. Girls Division I will encompass 199 schools with a base enrollment of 227 or more girls, while Girls Division II will include 202 schools with a base enrollment of 226 or fewer girls. Similarly, Boys Division I will consist of 228 schools with a base enrollment of 244 or more boys, while Boys Division II will involve 231 schools with a base enrollment of 243 or fewer boys.

Enrollment at the biggest three schools in Ohio D 1 boys are Mason (1335), Lakota West (1203), and Fairfield (1194) compared to Ravena (244), Meadowdale (245), and New Richmond (246). In division 2, Elida, Napoleon , and Bethel sit at 243 while St. John Central has 10.
